happy new year present

the dcdanceblog is supposed to be hibernating but i don’t think i am although i wish i was.
on new years eve i got a present. i’ve been looking for this piece on the internet for a long time and never find it. and then all of a sudden, on my favourite day of the year, i happened to stumble upon it.

SMOKE by mats ek meant a lot to me when it came out in the 90’s:

first part of SMOKE

second part of SMOKE

third part of SMOKE

i can’t tell if this piece feels old today, as i don’t have any distance to it, i loved it too much back in the day when i was young and into music like Arvo Pärt (who wrote the music that is used in SMOKE) and Phillip Glass and stuff like that.

please watch and let me know what you think.
oh and all you bullshitters who claim we don’t need to do our tendues as modern dancers……i watch sylvie, who kicks butts in SMOKE, and sort of feel like we’ll always need them. and the ballet classes in general.

happy new year to anyone still checking this site from time to time! as i mentioned below, things here are temporarily on hiatus–in hibernation, one might say. but once my life gets somewhat figured out, i’ll be back–hopefully in a month or two.
