collaborations

i just saw a postcard about these folks, forum theatre and dance. i’ve never heard of them before and wonder if anyone else has. their ideas look interesting–”a theatre and dance company focused on the collaboration of artists from theatre, dance, visual arts, and music to create unique, multi-genre productions”–though their stuff so far seems to be mostly just theatre. love the idea of putting together theatre, dance, music, etc, though. not enough dancers can act or actors dance!

another collaboration: nicole phillips will be doing improv dance over at 14th street’s plan b gallery on feb 17, together w/ artists beverly ryan (whom i like) and ran borgersen and a couple of musicians. looks very cool–low key but interesting.

i’d like to be doing more stuff like that.

speaking of 14th street galleries, there’s a very interesting exhibit by Melissa Ichiuji at Irvine Contemporary gallery. she’s a former dancer and her work consists of dolls, essentially, in very very interesting poses. i didn’t think it’d be the kind of thing i’d be into, but it was fascinating.

Screw postmodernism. Here’s some ballet for y’all

So YouTube doesn’t wanna appear on this blog right now. Therefor I put up this picture of Cullberg, which you can see doing this sublime version of Sleeping Beauty in a video clip HERE. In my opinion, it’s one of the very rare takes on a classical ballet that works. I adore it so much I wanna eat it. And it wouldn’t make me fat(ter). It would make me fly.

How can you not watch it?

I was gonna say, it doesn’t get more NorthernEuropean/probablyBrittish than this, but it’s not in fact. It’s an American company called BodyVox. Check out their YouTube, it’s not like much else.
